We are pleased to share our 2026 Fay Sasser Schola We are pleased to share our 2026 Fay Sasser Scholarship Recipients: Jacob Irving and Alya Martin.
The Sasser MAC employee scholarship celebrates the amazing employees of the Multnomah Athletic Club who are energetic and confident members of our community. The scholarship honors Fay Sasser’s 44 years of exceptional and dedicated service at the Club. Each recipient receives a $5,000 scholarship!
Jacob Irving
He is pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Oregon State University and exemplifies the values of hard work, leadership, and perseverance. A previous Sasser Scholarship recipient, Jacob has balanced rigorous academics, engineering involvement, and part-time work while remaining committed to graduating debt-free.
As a Head Lifeguard and swim instructor, Jacob leads with professionalism, accountability, and care — mentoring others while building confidence in high-responsibility environments.
Ayla Martin
She recently graduated magna cum laude from Portland State University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy, and this fall she will begin pursuing her Master of Social Work at Columbia University.
Throughout her academic journey, Ayla has demonstrated exceptional leadership, compassion, and initiative. While balancing full-time studies and her role as a server and hostess, she created a sustainable fundraising initiative benefiting Brain Injury Connections-Northwest, building meaningful partnerships with local businesses to support critical programs for individuals living with brain injuries.
Check back next Saturday for the other two amazing recipients.

Last week, our Scholarship Celebration brought together over 200 recipients, their families, volunteers, and donors. Because of every single person who makes our programs possible, we awarded $145,000 across 8 impactful scholarship programs.
When community shows up, we fuel futures and empower the dreams of young people.
Let’s take a moment to cheer for every student recognized and for the readers, donors, sponsors, and volunteers who help make this ripple of impact possible.
