2021 MAF Spin-A-Thon: The Ride & The Move

The annual Spin-A-Thon is changing gears and mixing up the action! Our goal is the same: to ride and move so that kids have access to sports and education. This year there will be two simultaneous Spin-A-Thon engagement points. The Ride and The Move are part of a week-long event set to take place between February 14th-20th and will kick off with a free virtual celebration held on January 28th. The kickoff celebration is an opportunity for both community connection and building momentum for The Ride and The Move.

If you want to register for the free Kickoff Event on January 28th go here.

If you are ready to register for The Ride and The Move, February 14 – 20 go here.

So, what is The Ride and The Move? It is a fresh and fun way of bringing community together to support youth athletics and raise money for our Grant Program. Read on to find all of the elements of both The Ride and The Move along with a Q&A sheet. We will update this post from now until the event as ideas and plans are evolving. Check back frequently to see what’s new!

The Ride

Two options to register, choose one with your $100 contribution:

  • All Access Virtual: We will take you through a guided virtual experience of our exciting and community driven Spin-A-Thon event with three livestreamed back-to-back spin classes on February 14th. These classes can be taken by anyone, spin bike not required! We encourage you to think outside of the box when it comes to virtual spin classes and use an elliptical machine or treadmill or just go for a run and use the virtual class as your pacing guide focusing on resistance rather than gear increases. Our virtual instructors want to see you participate in whichever way feels right for you.
  • All Access Lottery Drawing for In Person: Two in-person spin classes will be offered on February 14th in the MAC member garage. From 9am-10am and 11am-12pm we will have 30 bikes available to fill each hour.  This year we will use a lottery drawing to fill the bikes – this option will put you in the Feb 1st drawing for a live riding spot. These classes will be taught live by one of our amazing spin instructors with MAC sanitized equipment and will follow all COVID-19 safety protocols. Participants of this level will also receive the links for the three virtual classes being held on the 14th. That way you can join us if you are not selected during the lottery drawing or simply want more miles!

Both registration options for The Ride will include:

  • Goodie bags for the first 200 people to register for an ‘All Access’ registration option.
  • Opportunities to join additional activities like yoga classes, stretching workshops, and inspirational sessions to keep you active from February 14-20.
  • Playlists from our spin instructors to inspire you to keep riding.
  • Invitation to our virtual Kick Off event on January 28th at 6pm.
  • An invitation to our virtual Closing event on February 20th from 6pm-7pm.
  • All of the perks from The Move

The Move

Two options to register, choose one with your $10 contribution:

We want you to work together in your COVID pod, or virtually across the state or country to participate and be active as a team. You can sponsor a team or be the team captain, of up to 10 people. One person gets the team started and comes up with a Team Name. The team member join and track your active minutes for the week of February 14 – 20 through our Spin-A-Thon Challenge App. The participant code and directions to log on and create your team will be sent to you on February 10th so you can start tracking on Feb 14th. The team with the most collective participation minutes logged at the end of the week will have an opportunity to designate a $300 grant to one of the amazing Grant Partners of the Multnomah Athletic Foundation.
  • Individual: As an individual you will sign up for our Spin-A-Thon Challenge App and track your active minutes for the week of February 14-20. The participant code and directions to log on and create profile will be sent to you on February 10th so you can start tracking on Feb 14th. The individual with the most participation minutes logged at the end of the week will have an opportunity to designate a $300 grant to one of the incredible Grant Partners of the Multnomah Athletic Foundation.

Both registration options for The Move will include:

  • A chance to win one of our participation prizes.
  • Invitation to our virtual Kick Off event on January 28th at 6pm.

Still not sure of which option you want to sign up for? Join us for our Free Kickoff Party on January 28th from 6pm-7pm to learn all about the options and to hear first-hand what we have in store for you this year.
