Scholar Athletes Inspire Us! The annual scholar athlete scholarship is awarded to the high school sophomores of the MAC Scholar Athlete Program.
Students are nominated by each high school’s selection committee during their sophomore year based on their athletic and academic accomplishments. This program includes 29 high schools – defined as the 5A and 6A Oregon high schools within 12 miles of the Multnomah Athletic Club. Eligible schools are listed to the right.
The Multnomah Athletic Foundation funds a nonrenewable $1,500 scholarship. to the post-secondary institution. The institution can be any accredited 2 year school or 4 year school. The award can be used any time within a 6 year period after graduating from high school. Funding can be used for tuition, fees, books and technology. Any field of study.
The nomination period is complete for the 2020 cohort.
- Each nominated student has been provided online materials to apply for the MAC Scholar Athlete Program and Scholarship.
- The student application deadline is January 17, 2020.
- A trained group of volunteers from the Multnomah Athletic Club, Multnomah Athletic Foundation and the community will select one student from each high school.
- The 2020 cohort will be announced on March 6, 2020.
This scholarship program has been around since 1971 with 14 schools from the Portland Interscholastic League. In 2004, a generous gift by James F. Miller started the scholarship endowment. The Millers’ support to education and the arts in Oregon demonstrates leadership and commitment to their community. Their gift to the foundation celebrates the energy and accomplishments of high school student athletes.
