We will talk a bit about our scope, funding, and criteria and then we want to hear about your community work and funding needs. This time is intended to give past grantees, current grant partners, grant seekers or any other interested in our work the opportunity to join and meet with our Executive Director and a board member or committee member. We have limited staff and still want everyone to have access to a personal conversation about grant funding before our June 1st grant cycle deadline. Attending is not required to submit an application. Come ask questions with no agendas and nothing formal.

Our scholarships exist because we believe participation in athletics helps young people reach their full potential, and that support can make a significant difference in a student’s ability to pursue higher education. As a reviewer, you become part of that impact. 

Volunteers receive training and support, complete individual reviews online, and then gather for facilitated in-person deliberation meetings to help select finalists from high schools across the Portland metro area. It’s a powerful way to connect with inspiring young leaders and ensure opportunity reaches those who need it most. 

If you care about youth, education, athletics, and equity — this is your moment. Your time, perspective, and voice can help open doors.

The foundation is currently seeking volunteers to join the 2026 review teams for their scholarship opportunities. Volunteers can participate in one review team or multiple, if schedules allow.

Time commitment overview

Loprinzi Scholarship Program – selects the school finalists from high school seniors
March 14-April 12:       Using an online system, read and score applications for meeting preparation
April 13-19:                    Participate in an in-person review team deliberation meeting (1.5/2 hours)

MAC Scholar Athlete Program – selects the final recipients from the nominated high school sophomores
April 27 – May 15:           Using an online system, read and score applications for meeting preparation
May 16 – 22:                   Participate an in-person review team deliberation meeting (1.5/2 hours)

Interested volunteers should fill out the involvement form below and mark off the “Scholarship Review Team” option in Section 2.

As we continue to grow, we invite individuals to self-nominate for our Board of Directors and to get involved through our committees and review teams. We believe leadership should reflect the communities we serve, and self-nomination is one way we open doors to new voices, experiences, and perspectives.

Our foundation provides character- and confidence-building opportunities for youth, prioritizing underserved and underrepresented communities by increasing access to athletics and education. We see our board and volunteers as an incubator of leadership, connection, and impact that turns shared commitment into real resources for young people.

The Ford Family Foundation provides generous scholarships to students in Oregon and Siskiyou County, California, aiming to make college more accessible for those in financial need. The Bud Award honors the legacy of Bud Lewis and his spirit of sportsmanship, fair play, and pure love of the game. Each year we recognize a nonprofit that reflects those same values by opening doors for youth to learn, grow, and play.

This year we are proud to recognize Project Lemonade, an organization that champions equity and opportunity for foster youth. Project Lemonade provides high-quality programming that builds confidence, fosters perseverance, and supports personal growth for young people navigating the foster care system.

Their initiatives include the Project Lemonade Store, internships, and support for teens aging out of care. The WISH Program (What Inspires Students’ Hearts) helps youth participate in sports, camps, and enrichment activities that build teamwork, confidence, and inclusion. The Multnomah Athletic Foundation’s Impact Award honors a nonprofit that embodies community collaboration, youth development, and access to athletics. Each year we celebrate one grant partner whose impact on young people is undeniable and collaboration in the community is remarkable, and this year we are proud to recognize Portland Community Football Club (PCFC).

PCFC’s mission is simple and powerful: create access, belonging, and opportunity through high-quality soccer and wraparound support for low-income and historically underserved youth ages 6 to 18.

Founded in 2013, PCFC removes the barriers that keep kids off the field. Free uniforms. No registration fees. Excellent coaching. A place where every child, regardless of financial circumstance, can grow in confidence, skill, and community.

Their Family Service Program goes even further by offering mentorship, nutrition resources, academic support, and care that extends well beyond soccer.

In 2025, PCFC is deepening this commitment by fully eliminating all player fees and expanding partnerships that provide gear, translation, and transportation. It is a model that proves when soccer is truly accessible, everyone wins.

Congratulations to PCFC, a shining example of what it looks like when sport becomes a pathway, not a privilege.

Active Children Portland empowers kids to lead healthy lives, succeed academically, and engage in positive community projects. ACP helps to close health and achievement gaps through community-based mentor-led programming. (soccer, volleyball and basketball)

The First Tee / The Children’s Course help under-served children build academic, life and golf skills while forging trusting relationships and providing a safe space to be active, build healthy habits and experience the outdoors. (golf)

Girls on the Run promotes fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls, ages 4 – 18, to build their confidence, kindness and decision-making skills. (running)

Grackles Rugby provides rugby for girls and welcomes every athlete regardless of skill, body type, or experience. (rugby)

Cada Casa provides accessible, intercultural, educational experiences, athletic programs, and community engagement opportunities through schools and community outreach. (Futsol and community soccer)

p:ear Mentor builds positive relationships with homeless youth through art, education, outdoor recreation, and job training programs. (outdoor activities – hiking)

Playworks provides support and mentorship for recess to improve the health and well-being of children by increasing opportunities for physical activity and safe, meaningful play at school.

Tualatin Hills Park Foundation vision is for everyone’s life to be enriched through recreational programming.  The new FLOAT (Foundations of Lifesaving, Opportunity and Aquatic Training) program providing essential water safety knowledge and foundational swimming skills for high school students.

LEAP Wilderness Adventures creates empowering experiences for those facing adversity and trauma by providing wilderness programs. (river rafting and whitewater rafting)

Portland Tennis & Education offers tuition-free, year-round programming that includes tutoring, STEAM activities, and literacy support to a diverse group of students and their families. (tennis and pickleball)

Elite Sports Academy provides all day summer program with sports, athletic training and educational sessions. (multiple sports like basketball, running, CrossFit and more)

Steps for Youth is an in-school and after-school dance program focuses on providing affordable and enriching dance education to Youth of Color and mixed abilities. (dance).

Push Movement creates healthy, inclusive communities through skateboarding and creative self-expression.  In school partnerships and afterschool program for middle school and high school students. (skateboarding)

Pacific University Handball provides opportunities through handball for student athletes regardless of financial capacity. This is a donor designated funding through the Emmerson Fund.
